Why am I still dealing with brain fog, fatigue, low energy, & weight gain with a normal thyroid result?

As a Functional Medicine Coach, I have had numerous conversations with women surrounding thyroid health. I remember this one where she was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was seeing an endocrinologist that ended up putting her on thyroid medication.

She proceeded to tell me that she was still feeling extensive fatigue, brain fog, low energy, and other symptoms, despite her TSH was within normal range and even with being on medication.

Why is she still experiencing symptoms when she is on thyroid medication and her TSH is within normal range?

Because conventional medicine doesn’t teach doctors to order the correct test to assess overall thyroid health function.

This is why more than half go undiagnosed, and more go under-treated.

This is why I do what I do.

It’s so upsetting to me that women are dealing with low thyroid health  function day in and out. They are being told that everything is “within normal range.” TSH is not where it’s all. This is a brain hormone!!  And yes, it’s important to know this result but it doesn’t give the full picture.

To fully assess thyroid function, you must see the process from beginning to end. You could have TSH and T4 within range but if you aren’t converting T4 to T3 optimally. This means you aren’t getting enough thyroid hormone into your cell receptors to complete metabolic functions. Functions  such as metabolism, energy, body temperature, mood, GI function, and so much more. Plus, if you have high Rev T3 due to stress or inflammation this will impact your active free thyroid hormone.

This is why you have to look at the full picture for thyroid function –> TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Rev T3, Anti-TPO and Anti-Tg antibodies. This test will provide you with information on your overall thyroid function and if sub-optimal, you can start working on identifying the root cause of why that is.

I cover this exact topic in my “Women, Thyroid, and Labs” webinar.
